Microchip Completes Hailo Acquisition

According to Microchip Technology, the company has completed its acquisition of edge AI chip company Hailo. The transaction brings Hailo’s AI accelerators, vision processors, robotics processors, and AI software technologies into Microchip’s existing product portfolio, strengthening its presence in edge AI, machine vision, robotics, and Physical AI.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Microchip said the transaction is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results.

Hailo’s products are designed for edge AI applications and support computer vision, Transformer models, multimodal workloads, and advanced video analytics. Following the acquisition, Microchip plans to combine Hailo’s technologies with its own embedded processors, FPGAs, connectivity, security, analog, and power management solutions. The combined capabilities are expected to support applications including intelligent cameras, high-performance robotics, autonomous machines, and next-generation Physical AI platforms.

Microchip CEO Steve Sanghi said AI is becoming a fundamental technology for industrial automation, robotics, intelligent transportation, smart infrastructure, and advanced vision applications. He added that Hailo’s technologies will strengthen Microchip’s ability to deliver production-ready intelligent system platforms.

Hailo currently serves more than 100 customers and has a developer community of more than 10,000 users. Microchip said it will continue supporting Hailo’s existing product portfolio, software ecosystem, and customer relationships while investing in next-generation technologies for AI acceleration, vision processing, and intelligent edge computing.
