Intel Agrees to Acquire Classiq

According to the companies, Intel has agreed to acquire Israeli startup Classiq Technologies Ltd. to advance its quantum computing strategy and strengthen its position in the emerging quantum computing market. The companies did not disclose the acquisition price. Classiq's customers include BMW Group and AT&T.

Classiq develops software that enables customers to design quantum algorithms and generate code that can be tested and executed across different types of quantum hardware. The technology allows businesses to explore how quantum computing could improve operational efficiency and address complex computational challenges. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Intel's quantum hardware capabilities while making it easier to deploy quantum computing solutions.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said in a statement that the combination would transform Intel's quantum computing business into a full-stack quantum computing company. The two companies expect the transaction to close in the first half of 2027.

Once the world's largest chipmaker, Intel is seeking to establish a stronger position in quantum computing as the semiconductor industry explores new growth opportunities beyond conventional computing. Under Tan's leadership, Intel has worked to stabilize its financial position and is pursuing efforts to regain market share in artificial intelligence computing, where competitors have gained ground.

Classiq provides specialized AI-powered tools that help businesses evaluate potential applications of quantum computing in their operations. The company has raised more than $200 million in funding and employs approximately 130 people. Following the acquisition, Classiq is expected to continue helping customers develop quantum software that runs across multiple hardware platforms, including systems developed by Intel's competitors.

The deal highlights Intel's efforts to expand its quantum computing ecosystem by combining hardware capabilities with software development tools. As quantum technology continues to evolve, the integration of hardware and software could help accelerate experimentation and support the development of practical quantum computing applications.
