Toshiba Cuts Kioxia Stake Below 11%

According to the latest regulatory filings, Toshiba has reduced its stake in Japanese NAND flash memory manufacturer Kioxia Holdings to below 11%, continuing its gradual sell-off of shares in the company. The disclosure comes as Kioxia's stock plunged on November 4, reaching its lowest closing level in more than six months.

In a shareholding change report submitted to Japan's Kanto Local Finance Bureau on November 4, Toshiba disclosed that its stake in Kioxia had fallen from 11.80% on October 1 to 10.46% as of October 27. The reduction resulted from six separate share sales conducted through market transactions between October 2 and October 27.

Toshiba has been steadily reducing its investment in Kioxia since 2025. Following Kioxia's initial public offering (IPO) in December 2024, Toshiba initially retained more than 30% of the company's shares. On October 8, Toshiba also disclosed eight rounds of share sales conducted between September 8 and October 1.

Meanwhile, Kioxia shares fell 5.38% on November 4, closing at 10,735 yen, their lowest level since April 20. Compared with the record high of 37,566.7 yen reached on June 22, the stock has retreated by approximately 70%. Despite the recent decline, Kioxia shares remain up approximately 208% year to date, highlighting the stock's significant gains and subsequent volatility.
