On August 31, Renesas Electronics announced that it has reached an agreement with Steradian Semiconductors Private Limited, a fabless semiconductor company in India that provides 4D imaging radar products. The former will acquire the latter in an all-cash transaction, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Complete the acquisition.
Hidetoshi Shibata, President and CEO of Renesas Electronics, said, "Radar combines various sensors and is essential for ADAS implementation. We believe that by acquiring Steradian's outstanding technologies and engineers, we will be able to further strengthen our presence in automotive leading position in the field.”
It is reported that Steradian is a start-up company established in 2016, with a high level of expertise in radar, such as in 4D radar transceivers in the 76-81 GHz frequency band, in addition to high performance, Steradian also has high integration through high integration technology for miniaturization and high power efficiency.
Renesas noted that Renesas will use Steradian's design assets and expertise to develop automotive radar products, with the goal of starting sample shipments in 2022. In addition, Renesas will develop an automotive radar solution that combines the same automotive radar product with an ADAS SoC (system on a chip) for processing radar signals, a power management IC (PMIC), timing products and identification software.
