SK hynix has developed the fastest DDR5 DRAM memory ever with a speed of 6400Mbps

Recently, SK hynix announced the development of the industry's first 32GB DDR5-6400Mbps Unbuffered Dual Inline Memory Module (UDIMM) and Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SODIMM) for PCs, and provided samples to customers.

UDIMM is a general term for memory modules used in PCs, and SODIMMs are ultra-small memory modules used in PCs. It is understood that SK hynix's new product has the fastest speed among existing PC and consumer-grade DDR5 modules. 6400Mbps is the speed at which 10 Full HD movies (5GB) can be streamed in one second. The new module uses a clock driver (CKD), which can support stable operation of the product during high-speed data processing.

At present, DDR4 modules are the mainstream products in the memory market, and are used in traditional markets such as personal computers and servers, as well as emerging markets such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, with a maximum speed of 3200Mbps.

According to industry estimates, DDR5 DRAM will become the mainstream of the memory semiconductor market as early as next year. The profitability of South Korean chipmakers is expected to improve if DDR5 DRAM takes the lead. DDR5 DRAM is a high value-added product, 20%-30% more expensive than DDR4 DRAM.

According to market researcher Omdia, DDR5 DRAM's share of total DRAM shipments is expected to climb from 4.7% this year to 20.1% next year and 40.5% in 2025.
