On November 9, according to Korean media BusinessKorea, the Korean Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy and the U.S. Department of Commerce held talks on the 8th to discuss the impact of U.S. export restrictions on Chinese semiconductors on the Korean semiconductor industry.
The two sides discussed how to exchange relevant information and data and how to cooperate on restrictions, the report said. In addition, they examined the progress of export controls to Russia and explored how to reduce South Korea's uncertainty over U.S. measures against China.
The measures, taken Oct. 7, are aimed at preventing U.S. companies from exporting advanced semiconductor equipment to Chinese semiconductor makers. However, the measures will not apply to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix factories in China until October 6 next year.
The two ministries plan to hold the meeting regularly to strengthen cooperation on export control countermeasures and better protect South Korean companies from being affected, the report said.
