Ericsson to invest millions in UK 6G research

Network equipment maker Ericsson said on Tuesday it would invest millions of pounds in 6G mobile research in the UK, working with universities on hardware security, artificial intelligence, cognitive networking and quantum computing.

According to Reuters, Ericsson pointed out that the 10-year plan will help promote the development of the next-generation 6G network, which is expected to be commercially available around 2030.

Katherine Ainley, CEO of Ericsson UK and Ireland, said: "Universities in the UK are conducting world-class research into some of the technologies that will underpin next-generation networks. Ericsson will establish a team of 20 experienced researchers in the UK. personnel, and the initial focus will be on 6G network and hardware security.”

Ericsson previously predicted that the demand for 6G will be proposed in 2024. According to the global unified standard that 3GPP has always adhered to, it is expected that a complete 6G standard will be formed after 2028, and it will be commercialized in 2030.

Ericsson China Chief Technology Officer Peng Junjiang once said that 6G will become a bridge connecting the virtual and real worlds, and 6G will lead humans into the "unity" of the "virtual world" and the "real world".
