According to Japan's Kyodo News, Micron Technology's subsidiary "Japan Micron Memory Corporation" located in Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, has started mass production of the most cutting-edge DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) at the Hiroshima factory in the city on the 16th.
It is reported that the latest mass-produced product is called "1β". Compared with the previous generation, the power efficiency and memory density have increased by about 15% and about 35%, respectively, and are mainly shipped to smartphones. The Hiroshima plant was acquired by Micron when it acquired Elpida in 2013. It will build a new plant in 2019 and is committed to the production of cutting-edge technology products DRAM.
On the same day, Micron Technology also announced that in response to market conditions, the company will reduce the operating rate of memory DRAM and flash memory NAND wafer production by about 20% compared with the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022.
Reuters news pointed out that Micron Technology disclosed in September this year that the Japanese government will provide it with 46.5 billion yen in subsidies for Micron Technology's investment in the Hiroshima factory to manufacture advanced memory chips.
