LG Display plans to stop operations at its P7 plant in Paju, South Korea, which makes 43-inch to 50-inch TV LCD panels, this month.
According to Korean media The Elec, LG Display will only produce the products agreed in the long-term contract signed with customers, and then stop production of the P7 factory. LG Display has said that its existing TV LCD production line has the ability to change to produce OLED panels for TV and IT products.
In addition, LG Display's P8 factory will continue to produce LCD panels for IT products. The factory in Guangzhou, China, which produces LCD panels for TVs, will reduce production capacity by 40% from 210,000 substrates per month to 120,000.
It is reported that LG Display has been working hard on OLED panels. It is reported that the company will launch large-size OLED panels using microlens array (MLA) technology in 2024, which will improve brightness and power consumption. MLA technology uses lenses to bend the trajectory of light to improve brightness efficiency. LG Display started applying deuterium to its OLED panels last year to increase brightness from 800nit to more than 1000nit. Adding MLA technology will further improve brightness and may extend the life of the panel.
