According to the Korean media "The Elec", Samsung plans to build a trial production line at the P4 plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea and the Texas plant in the United States before the end of the year.
It is reported that the new factory in Texas will be a foundry and will be used to produce 5G, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and other advanced chips, while the P4 factory will be used to produce storage and logic chips.
For fabs or chip production equipment, trial production lines are usually built three months earlier than the main production line, because new fabs usually use more advanced processes. For example, for NAND and for logic chip upgrades from 4nm to 3nm, it usually means that there may be more layers and more advanced processes.
In addition, Samsung will conduct commercial production at some point in 2024, provided the main production line goes well.
Prior to this, the market also reported Samsung's expansion plan. Samsung plans to increase the production capacity of the P3 plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, and increase the output of 12-inch wafers used to produce DRAM memory chips. It is reported that Samsung Electronics plans to add at least 10 EUV lithography machines next year.
