Intel's foundry service has won 3nm new customers, and the cumulative order will bring more than 4 billion US dollars in revenue

On January 28, local time, according to Tomshardware, Intel recently announced its fourth-quarter and full-year financial reports for 2022. Edge and Data Center Solutions Provider” has won orders to manufacture chips using the Intel 3 process.

However, Intel has not disclosed the name of the customer and the specific OEM products for the time being.

"I am very pleased to add a leading provider of cloud computing, edge and data center solutions as a leading-edge customer of Intel 3." Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said, "Including previous customers such as MediaTek, can be foundry for Intel Services generate more than $4 billion in long-term contract revenue."

The company has been customizing the Intel 20A and Intel 18A (2nm and 1.8 nm classes, respectively) for its foundry customers. In contrast, its current and upcoming Intel 7 (10nm Enhanced SuperFin), Intel 4 (7nm with EUV) and Intel 3 (7nm+ with EUV) nodes are designed primarily for Intel itself. So it's quite an achievement for Intel to win a major customer with the Intel 3 process (which will be in production in 2024).

At the same time, Intel is likely to produce a semi-custom version of the Xeon processor for a major customer.

According to reports, Intel's IFS has been growing steadily. The foundry unit landed two initial customers, Qualcomm and Amazon Web Services (AWS), and won a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. In addition, Intel said that it is actively cooperating with many large Fabless chip designers on specific businesses, which is also a considerable achievement for a contract chip manufacturer that has been in the business for less than two years.

Pat Gelsinger said, "We are also currently actively working with 7 of the 10 largest foundry customers, including 43 potential customers and testing chips for ecosystem partners. In addition, we continue to achieve Intel 18A progress, and has shared an engineering release of PDK 0.5 (Process Design Kit) with key customers and expects a final product release in the coming weeks."
