On August 8, 2023, Infineon Technologies introduces the latest Power PROFET™ + 12V high-side switch family, a groundbreaking solution for modern E/E automotive architectures. With advanced TO lead-free packaging, these switches offer superior performance and efficiency for next-generation power distribution systems.
The Power PROFET™ + 12V series boasts innovative features, providing new mounting positions and housing options to enable highly efficient decentralized power architectures. Specifically designed for high-current applications like heaters, pumps, and fans in demanding environments, such as the engine and thermal compartments, these switches deliver industry-leading on-state resistance (RDS(ON)) of 0.6 mΩ and 1.0 mΩ, resulting in significantly lower power losses.
Moreover, these intelligent switches are highly reliable, with over one million switch cycles, far surpassing traditional relays. They are ideal replacements for electromechanical relays, fuses, and discrete circuits, capable of handling currents of up to 65 A in 12V electrical systems.
The Power PROFET™ + 12V series offers various built-in protection and diagnostic features, including short-circuit, overcurrent, and overheat protection. These semiconductor devices not only provide comprehensive protection but also offer fault signals to connected microcontrollers, facilitating advanced diagnostics of distribution modules and preventing potential network failures, thus enhancing vehicle reliability.
In terms of form factor, the switches come in space-saving 8-pin TO lead-free packages, reducing board space requirements by 23% compared to traditional D2PAK packages while maintaining excellent thermal performance.
Additionally, this series has obtained PRO-SIL™ ISO 26262 certification, ensuring safety compliance and offering peace of mind to manufacturers and designers.
To simplify the design integration process, Infineon has integrated the Power PROFET™ + 12V series into its Intelligent Switch Embedded Fuse Tool and Intelligent Load Identification System (kILIS) tool, available through the Infineon Developer Center. These tools aid in calculating fuse characteristics and current sensing ranges, making it easier for engineers and designers to adopt these cutting-edge switches in their applications.
With its advanced technology, reliability, and enhanced efficiency, the Power PROFET™ + 12V series is poised to revolutionize power distribution in modern vehicles, providing a robust and intelligent solution for the automotive industry.
