Littelfuse Unveils Revolutionary 800V MOSFET in SOT-223-2L

On October 17, 2023, Littelfuse Corporation (NASDAQ: LFUS), a leading industrial technology manufacturing company dedicated to advancing sustainability, global connectivity, and enhanced safety, is delighted to introduce the CPC3981Z. This new release is an 800V, 100mA, 45-ohm low-power N-channel depletion-mode MOSFET.

In comparison to the conventional SOT-223 packaging, the CPC3981Z boasts an SOT-223-2L package configuration, featuring the removal of the center pin. This modification significantly extends the pin spacing between the drain and gate, increasing it from 1.386 millimeters to over 4 millimeters. This extended creepage distance proves highly advantageous for applications requiring higher voltage thresholds, such as switch mode power supplies (SMPS) and power factor correction (PFC) startup circuits, enabling design engineers to circumvent the need for expensive conformal coatings or potting.

The primary distinction of the CPC3981Z is its enhanced SOT-223-2L package, which empowers designers to harness compact discrete components to meet the extended creepage distance prerequisites of high-voltage applications. The CPC3981Z not only enhances circuit reliability but also presents a cost-effective solution. Its 800V rated breakdown voltage positions it as an ideal choice for a wide array of applications, including industrial, energy, telecommunications, and LED lighting. Its utility spans across various functions such as normally open switches, power supplies, startup circuits, solid-state relays, current regulators, and constant current sources.

The increased pin-to-pin spacing of the depletion-mode MOSFET simplifies isolation management for wide-input voltage power supplies and enables more compact printed circuit board layouts.
