LG Display Tops 5 Years in High-End Auto Displays (10"+)

Market research firm Omdia has noted that LG Display has maintained its position as the world's leading provider of high-end automotive displays measuring 10 inches and above for five consecutive years since 2018. This accolade is attributed to LG Display's prowess in differentiated technology, stringent quality control measures, and unwavering supply stability.

LG Display entered the automotive display sector in 2005, focusing on Central Information Displays (CIDs) production. Despite the dominance of Japanese enterprises in the CID market, LG Display strategically targeted the high-value large automotive display segment. By harnessing proprietary technology and the advanced Low-Temperature Polysilicon LCD (LTPS LCD), LG Display introduced a diverse range of automotive Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays. These displays, distinguished by their expansive dimensions, low power consumption, and exceptional brightness, redefine the driving experience and fortify LG Display's competitive edge.

In comparison to LCD panels, OLED panels offer advantages such as low power consumption, high definition, and lightweight properties, making them exceptionally well-suited for the electric vehicle era. Moreover, their design flexibility allows seamless integration with curved surfaces.

Notwithstanding the global economic challenges, the automotive OLED panel market is witnessing robust growth, intensifying the competition between industry giants Samsung Display and LG Display. While LG Display has traditionally dominated this market, Samsung Display is rapidly gaining ground, securing significant orders from prestigious global brands like Ferrari and BMW. According to Omdia's 2022 data on the automotive OLED panel market, LG Display commands a substantial 50% market share, closely followed by Samsung Display at 42.7%, with BOE accounting for 7.3%. This dynamic landscape positions LG Display as an influential force in shaping the future of automotive displays.
