Qualcomm: X Elite Beats Apple M3 by 21%

In a recent announcement covered by Digitaltrends on December 18th, Qualcomm showcased its groundbreaking Snapdragon X Elite processor designed for the PC market. This processor stands out by surpassing Apple's latest M3 series processor in various key aspects, particularly excelling in AI performance.

The Snapdragon X Elite processor boasts 12 proprietary Oryon CPU cores, each running at a clock speed of 3.8GHz. Supporting dual-core turbo frequencies up to 4.3GHz, it features a substantial memory bandwidth of 136GB/s (LPDDR5x) and an impressive total cache of 42MB. Additionally, it integrates Qualcomm's own Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU.

According to Qualcomm's released data, a performance comparison with Intel's i7-1360P (12-core) and i7-1355U (10-core) processors reveals that the X Elite's CPU performance is doubled, accompanied by a remarkable 68% reduction in power consumption. Even when pitted against Intel's i7-13800H (14-core), the Snapdragon X Elite outshines with a 60% higher CPU multi-threading performance and a significant 65% decrease in peak power consumption. In single-threaded CPU performance, the X Elite surpasses its counterparts without factoring in power consumption. In comparison to Apple's M2 processor, the X Elite's CPU multi-threading performance is 50% higher.

Notably, within a week of the Snapdragon X Elite processor's launch, Apple introduced its M3 series chips, claiming a 30% increase in CPU performance cores, a 50% improvement in efficiency cores, and a substantial 60% acceleration in the neural network engine performance compared to the M1 series chips, enhancing AI/ML workflows.

Qualcomm's latest data underscores the Snapdragon X Elite PC processor's superiority over Apple's M3, showcasing leading single-core CPU performance and a remarkable 21% increase in multi-core performance.

Anticipated to hit the market in mid-2024, PCs featuring the Snapdragon X Elite processor will be available through collaborations with industry leaders, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Honor, Lenovo, Microsoft, Samsung, and Xiaomi. Internally, Qualcomm's testing with engineering devices not only affirms the performance enhancements but also commends the processor's groundbreaking support for edge computing in AI applications for PCs.
