Rumored Apple, OpenAI Discussions for AI in iPhone

Apple is reportedly in renewed discussions with OpenAI about incorporating the startup's technology into the upcoming iPhone, set to be released later this year. The companies are exploring a potential agreement to integrate OpenAI's features into Apple's iOS 18 operating system.

Negotiations between Apple and OpenAI took place earlier this year, but interactions have since been limited. Apple is also considering Google's Gemini chatbot technology and has been engaged in talks regarding its licensing.

The final partnership for Apple has not yet been determined, and the company may collaborate with both OpenAI and Google. Representatives from Apple, OpenAI, and Google declined to comment on the matter.

The next iPhone operating system is expected to include several new features based on Apple's large language model, including AI software capable of generating human-like voice messages. The company is also seeking other partners to support chatbot features similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Bloomberg reported in March that Anthropic, another AI startup, could also become a potential partner for Apple.

Leveraging technology from other companies can help Apple accelerate its entry into the chatbot market while minimizing certain risks. Outsourcing generative AI capabilities to other firms can reduce the burden on Apple's platform.
