AMD Ryzen 9000 Zen 5 CPU Revealed

Recent reports reveal that AMD's latest Ryzen 9000 "Granite Ridge" CPUs, built on the Zen 5 core architecture, offer a 19% increase in single-thread performance compared to their Zen 4 predecessors.

Early leaks have identified these engineering samples with the OPN ID "100-0000001290," highlighting significant advancements even at this preliminary stage. The Zen 5 cores are reported to exceed the performance of Zen 4 models equipped with 3D V-Cache, achieving clock speeds up to 5.8 GHz, positioning them as the fastest Ryzen CPUs to date.

In performance benchmarks, the Ryzen 9000 series shows a notable leap. According to CPU-z data, the new processors have a TDP of 170W and are likely available in 16-core or 12-core configurations. They have achieved approximately 910 points in single-thread tests, significantly outpacing the Zen 4-based Ryzen 9 7950X, which scores around 767 points. This demonstrates a 19% enhancement in single-thread performance.

Further improvements are expected with an upgraded Integrated Memory Controller (IMC), enhancing overall performance. Standard Zen 5 CPUs are also anticipated to deliver better gaming performance compared to Zen 4 3D V-Cache models.

AMD is set to offer four SKUs of the Ryzen 9000 "Granite Ridge" CPUs, including 16, 12, 8, and 6-core variants. Additionally, industry rumors suggest nearly a 10% increase in IPC (Instructions Per Cycle) and up to 40% performance gains in specific workloads.

While detailed information on the Zen 5 core architecture is still emerging, official statements indicate enhancements in performance and efficiency, a new pipeline frontend, and integrated AI and machine learning optimizations.

The Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" desktop CPUs are expected to launch in July. With AMD's Computex keynote just around the corner, more details are anticipated soon. Furthermore, AMD is preparing to introduce the Ryzen AI 300 mobile APU, featuring the innovative new Strix design.
