Micron Announces Mass Production of G9 NAND SSDs

Micron Technology has announced the commencement of shipments for its 9th Generation (G9) TLC NAND SSDs, marking a significant milestone as the first company to deliver this advanced technology. The new Micron G9 NAND SSDs achieve an unprecedented data transfer rate of 3.6 GB/s, setting a new standard for data read and write speeds. This breakthrough technology is designed to deliver exceptional performance across a wide range of applications, including personal devices, edge servers, enterprise systems, and cloud data centers, meeting the growing demands of AI and other data-intensive applications.

Scott DeBoer, Executive Vice President of Technology and Products at Micron, emphasized that the launch of the G9 NAND highlights Micron's robust capabilities in process technology and design innovation. The Micron G9 NAND offers a 73% increase in density compared to current market products, enabling the creation of smaller, more efficient storage solutions that benefit both consumers and businesses.

The G9 NAND leverages the industry's highest NAND I/O rates to handle large data workloads with ease. This new product increases data transfer rates by 50% compared to other existing NAND SSDs. Additionally, it significantly enhances write and read bandwidth per die by 99% and 88%, respectively, providing a clear performance advantage that enhances SSD and embedded NAND solutions.

The Micron G9 NAND maintains the compact form factor of its predecessors, with an 11.5mm x 13.5mm package, making it 28% smaller than competing products. This reduction in size, combined with increased density, allows for greater design flexibility across various use cases.

Sumit Sadana, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer at Micron, noted that Micron has consistently led the industry in introducing innovative and top-tier NAND technologies over three product generations. The Micron G9 NAND offers performance that surpasses competitors, serving as a foundation for storage innovation and delivering significant value to customers in diverse markets.

Prasad Alluri, Vice President and General Manager of Client Storage at Micron, highlighted that even in a saturated PCIe Gen4 market, the Micron 2650 SSD, featuring the latest G9 NAND technology, sets new standards for TLC client SSDs. This SSD outperforms competitors by 38% in PCMark 10 benchmark tests, redefining the user experience for SSDs in its class.

The Micron 2650 NVMe SSD is designed for superior stability and performance, featuring Dynamic SLC Cache to enhance write performance. It delivers peak performance for PCIe Gen4, with sequential read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s. Compared to competing products, it offers up to 70% higher sequential read speeds, 103% higher sequential write speeds, 156% higher random read speeds, and 85% higher random write speeds.

Micron's latest advancements in NAND technology underline its commitment to delivering cutting-edge storage solutions that drive innovation and performance across various applications, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.
