Don’t want to add an external active speaker to your desktop and don’t need high-quality sound? How about trying a DIY project? You can install a mini speaker with a small amplifier board inside the computer case front panel. Here’s how:
1. Find two small speakers (8Ω, 1.5W) and remove the cover from the optical drive slot. Mark where you'll make the holes.
2. Grab a drill.
3. Drill the holes.
4. Install the speakers.
5. Solder the connections.
6. Use a PAM8403 (5V, Class D mini amplifier).
7. If the holes aren’t perfect, use glue to seal and secure the speakers.
8. Connect the speakers to the front USB port and headphone output of the case for shorter wiring.
9. Complete the setup and install everything. Check the final appearance.
