South Korea PC CPU Market: AMD Surpasses Intel

Since September 2023, AMD Ryzen processors have seen a significant increase in market share within South Korea's DIY PC sector. This shift occurred after Intel's 14th Gen Core processors, released in October 2023, failed to meet performance expectations, prompting many consumers to turn to the Ryzen 7000 series.

Data from Danawa, a leading IT parts and systems sales platform in South Korea, reveals that AMD's Ryzen CPUs commanded 55% of the DIY PC CPU market as of July, compared to Intel's Core processors, which held around 45%. With the anticipated launch of the Ryzen 9000 series, known for its enhanced energy efficiency, AMD’s market share is expected to grow even further.

According to Danawa, Intel's Core processors held a dominant market share of over 55% until August 2023. However, this share began to decline from September 2023, dropping below 45% by February 2024. The decline is linked to stability issues with Intel's 13th and 14th generation CPUs, affecting over 8 million units.

In contrast, AMD Ryzen processors, having surpassed Intel's market share in early 2024, have consistently maintained over 50% market share, except for a brief dip in June.

This trend extends beyond DIY PCs, with Ryzen processors also experiencing increased sales in PCs provided by mid-sized enterprises in South Korea. Sources from a mid-sized manufacturer noted a substantial rise in sales for products like the Ryzen 5 7500, while sales of Intel-based products have decreased.

Despite this, the introduction of AMD's latest Ryzen 9000 series in South Korea has been relatively subdued, reflecting global market trends. Recent reports from Europe indicate that the high-end Ryzen 9 9900X CPU saw an 8% price drop shortly after its release, suggesting weaker-than-expected demand.
