Ahead of CES 2025, Samsung has revealed a new lineup of displays focused on gaming and entertainment. Among the highlights are two new models from the Odyssey G series, featuring what is claimed to be the world's first 500Hz refresh rate OLED panel.
The Odyssey G6 and G8 are Samsung's latest high-performance gaming monitors, with the former boasting an impressive 500Hz refresh rate. The Odyssey G81SF, part of the G8 series, is a 27-inch OLED display with a 4K panel and 240Hz refresh rate, offering a pixel density of 165 PPI. The G6 model, also a 27-inch panel, has a lower resolution of 1440p, but the reduced resolution comes with a significant upgrade in refresh rate—over twice the speed compared to traditional displays.
While 500Hz monitors like the AW2524HF have already appeared on the market, Samsung's G6 is the first to feature an OLED panel with this refresh rate.
Thanks to OLED technology, both the G6 and G8 displays offer near-instantaneous response times of 0.03ms. They also support adaptive refresh rate technologies from AMD and Nvidia, including G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro, making them ideal for smooth gaming experiences. Additionally, these monitors support HDR 400 True Black, providing enhanced HDR functionality for compatible gaming and video content.
At CES, Samsung will also showcase the Odyssey 3D G90XF, a display focused on 3D gaming and entertainment without the need for glasses. The Odyssey 3D utilizes new lenses connected to the front panel to deliver 3D effects, allowing users to experience immersive content without the inconvenience of 3D glasses. Furthermore, this model features AI-powered technology that can convert 2D video into 3D.
In line with advancements in artificial intelligence, Samsung is introducing the “Smart Monitor M9,” an AI-driven display designed to enhance entertainment and interactivity. This 32-inch 4K OLED monitor, which supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, includes two key AI features: AI Picture Optimizer and AI Upscaling Pro.
AI Picture Optimizer analyzes incoming signals and adjusts display settings to optimize the visual experience for various content, including games, productivity applications, and videos. On the other hand, AI Upscaling Pro enhances lower-resolution content to 4K in real-time, similar to Nvidia's DLSS, but works on any content displayed on the screen. Samsung uses neural networks to improve content quality without requiring a dedicated external processor.
Also in the new lineup is the ViewFinity S8 S80UD, a productivity-focused monitor with a standout 37-inch display. While the panel type has not been disclosed, the lack of OLED mentions suggests it may feature an IPS panel. The monitor offers a 4K 16:9 resolution with 99% sRGB color accuracy. Additionally, the display comes equipped with an integrated KVM switch, allowing users to control multiple systems without the need for separate peripherals. The S80UD also features a 90W USB Type-C port for device charging, adding to its versatility.
