On March 12, at the Embedded World exhibition, MediaTek launched its high-performance edge AI IoT chips, the Genio 720 and Genio 520. These new additions to the Genio intelligent IoT platform offer cutting-edge capabilities in generative AI models, human-machine interfaces (HMI), multimedia, and connectivity. They are designed for use in commercial and industrial IoT products, including smart home and smart retail applications.
The Genio 720 and Genio 520 deliver exceptional edge computing performance, equipped with MediaTek's eighth-generation NPU, providing up to 10 TOPS of processing power. These chips support hardware acceleration for Transformer and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models, enabling faster execution of generative AI tasks. With support for up to 16GB of LPPDR5 memory, the chips are optimized for data-intensive large language models like Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek, significantly enhancing the speed of AI model processing.
With MediaTek's extensive AI ecosystem, developers can leverage industry-leading global language models and frameworks to efficiently deploy multimodal generative AI applications, accelerating time-to-market for end products.
Built on a high-efficiency 6nm process, both the Genio 720 and Genio 520 integrate an octa-core CPU, featuring two Arm Cortex-A78 cores and six Arm Cortex-A55 cores. This design balances performance with power efficiency, ideal for low-power applications and battery-operated mobile devices.
The Genio 720 and Genio 520 support a wide range of advanced multimedia features, making them perfect for business displays, smart retail devices, HMI applications, and various multi-window and interactive use cases. Their unified hardware and software design ensures developers can write once and deploy anywhere, while the chips also offer customization options to meet specific application requirements.
Both platforms are compatible with open standard modules (OSM), and offer reference designs that ensure power and signal integrity, significantly reducing development time. MediaTek's partners are set to launch OSM solutions based on the Genio 720 and Genio 520 in the second half of 2025, further accelerating the deployment of end-user products.
