Infineon Leads MCU Market with 21.3% Share

On March 11, Infineon officially announced its rise to the top position in the global microcontroller (MCU) market. According to the latest research from Omdia, Infineon's market share reached 21.3% in 2024, marking a 3.5 percentage point increase from 17.8% in 2023—the highest growth among industry peers. This milestone marks the first time in the company's history that Infineon has secured the leading position in the global MCU market.

Over the past few years, Infineon has consistently outpaced the market's growth. Since 2015, its MCU business has maintained an average annual growth rate of 13.0%, significantly exceeding the market's 4.0% growth rate. In 2023, Infineon became the leading supplier of automotive MCUs worldwide. Now, the company has expanded its leadership across the entire MCU market, covering all end-use sectors. Omdia reports that the global MCU market's total sales revenue is projected to reach $22.4 billion in 2024, following $28 billion in 2023.

MCUs serve as the backbone of numerous applications, powering eco-friendly, safe, and intelligent automotive systems, advancing IoT devices that reshape everyday life, and driving efficiency in industrial automation. Infineon's diverse MCU portfolio meets these evolving demands, featuring established product lines such as AURIX™, TRAVEO™, PSOC™, XMC™, and secure MCUs.

At Embedded World 2025, a premier global event for embedded systems, Infineon will showcase its latest innovations and future product roadmap. One of the key highlights will be the upcoming AURIX™ RISC-V-based automotive-grade MCU series, set to be introduced in the coming years. This addition will expand Infineon's existing lineup, which includes TriCore™- and Arm®-based solutions. Notably, Infineon is the first semiconductor company to announce an automotive-specific MCU series built on RISC-V, designed to meet the advanced computational needs of software-defined vehicles.

In addition, Infineon will unveil several advancements within the PSOC multi-purpose MCU lineup, including the new PSOC Control series, which enhances power and motor control capabilities. The PSOC Edge series will also be highlighted, featuring AI-driven edge computing solutions that comply with CRA regulations. Furthermore, Infineon will introduce the latest enhancements to the PSOC 4 MCU series, incorporating next-generation inductive and liquid sensing capabilities. These advancements extend Infineon's industry-leading capacitive sensing technology, unlocking new use cases and higher integration levels.
