Samsung Display to Launch Next-Gen QD Tech at SID 2025

Samsung Display is set to showcase its latest advancements in OLED technology at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2025, taking place from May 13 to 15 in San Jose, California.

At this year's event, Samsung Display will spotlight its enhanced Electroluminescent Quantum Dot (EL-QD) technology, which has seen notable performance improvements over the past year. EL-QD leverages ultra-fine semiconductor nanocrystals known as quantum dots to emit primary colorsred, green, and bluedirectly through the pixel structure.

The company will unveil two EL-QD prototypes: a high-brightness model reaching 400 nits, and a high-resolution version delivering 264 pixels per inch (PPI). The 400-nit display marks a 50% increase in brightness compared to the 250-nit version introduced last year. Samsung Display also revealed that the lifetime of blue organic materialsa key challenge in EL-QD commercializationhas been significantly extended.

In addition to EL-QD, Samsung will present its cutting-edge "Sensor OLED Display" technology, previously published in Nature Communications, through a physical demonstration for the first time. This innovation integrates sensing capabilities directly into the OLED panel, opening up new possibilities for future smart device applications.

The company is also debuting a groundbreaking 5000 PPI RGB OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) display, now offering the highest resolution ever recorded for RGB-based silicon OLEDs in the industry.

Samsung Display's portfolio of form factor innovations will also be on display. This includes its stretchable MicroLED screen introduced last year, which incorporates a 3D mapping concept to create a dual-lifted surface effectdemonstrating the company's continued leadership in next-generation display design.
