DIY Constant Temp Heating Plate Guide

If you're interested in building a DIY constant temperature heating platform, this article is worth checking out.

One important safety tip: avoid using a 2-prong plug with this heating platform. Using a 2-prong plug can sometimes cause a voltage tester to light up when touching the metal casing—not because of an actual electric leak, but due to induced current. To stay safe, it's best to use a 3-prong plug to ensure proper grounding and improve overall safety.

The exterior of the heating platform looks like this:

The casing is spray-painted black, but you can use any color you prefer.

While the internal wiring may look messy, some wires are intentionally left longer to make future maintenance easier. One key point to note: the temperature control switch must be insulated from the outer casing. New temperature switches usually come with a silicone sleeve for this very reason—insulation. Since the metal casing is connected to one of the wires, never use the switch without proper insulation.

Materials used:

· Temperature controller: REX-C100

· K-type thermocouple

· Heating plate: 70×120mm, 400W

· Fuse holder

· 5A glass fuse

· 150°C normally-closed thermal switch

· Illuminated power switch

· Wires

· Metal plate

For the support screws, you can use 3–4mm rods and raise the platform by about 3cm. Additionally, you can mount an aluminum plate in the middle using nuts to help reflect and block some of the downward heat radiation.
