Got an old, cheap electric toothbrush lying around? Instead of tossing it out, why not try turning it into a mini drill? Follow along and see how you can give it a second life!
The basic electric toothbrush looks something like the one in the picture below. It usually runs on two AA batteries, but if that doesn't cut it, you can always upgrade it later with a lithium battery for more power.
First, you'll need to cut off the front part and manually widen the hole a bit.
There's a drainage hole on the toothbrush body—that spot actually works perfectly to tighten a hex screw, which you can use to hold the drill bit in place when swapping bits out.
You can use a three-jaw chuck to hold the drill bit, but be patient—it takes some careful tweaking to get it just right.
Since the motor is pretty low-powered, this little drill is best suited for light tasks like drilling holes in circuit boards or plastic parts about 1mm thick. It feels just right for those kinds of jobs.
And that's it—you're done!
