SK Hynix Unveils 1c LPDDR5X to Boost AI Memory Market

According to South Korean media reports, SK Hynix has successfully developed LPDDR5X low-power DRAM based on its sixth-generation 10nm-class (1c) process in the first half of 2025. The company plans to begin conversion investments for this process in the second half of 2025. This technological breakthrough positions SK Hynix to capture a larger share of the AI memory market and meet the demands of major tech companies, including NVIDIA.

LPDDR, a DRAM type designed to maximize power efficiency, is widely used in smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. Over the years, it has evolved from LPDDR1 to LPDDR5X, with commercial applications now reaching the seventh generation. SK Hynix had previously begun mass production of LPDDR5X using the fifth-generation 10nm-class (1b) process in Q4 2024. The new 1c process further strengthens the company's technological leadership.

The 1c process LPDDR5X offers 24Gb capacity and operates at speeds up to 10.7Gbps. It will be available in SoCAMM and LPCAMM module formats to address the needs of AI servers and PCs. LPCAMM combines the flexibility of So-DIMM with the high efficiency of onboard LPDDR, offering reduced package size, improved power efficiency, and plug-and-play convenience. SoCAMM, as the next-generation module, provides 694 input/output channelssurpassing LPCAMMs 644for higher performance.

These new modules are drawing strong attention from global technology companies and memory innovators, with NVIDIA reportedly planning to incorporate the advanced memory technology into its next-generation AI PCs.
