Google Debuts Tensor G5: 3nm Chip, 34% CPU & 60% TPU Boost

Google has officially unveiled the new Pixel 10 series, powered by the company's latest Tensor G5 processor — its first chip manufactured by TSMC and also the most powerful mobile SoC Google has built to date.

The Tensor G5 is based on TSMC's 3nm process, featuring an eight-core CPU with one ultra-core, five high-performance cores, and two efficiency cores. Compared with the previous Tensor G4, the new CPU delivers an average 34% performance boost, while TPU acceleration sees a massive 60% jump. Benchmark data from GeekBench shows the Pixel 10 Pro XL scoring 2242 in single-core and 5981 in multi-core, representing a 14% and 28% improvement over the Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Co-developed with Google DeepMind, the Tensor G5 supports the latest Gemini Nano model and introduces new architectural innovations such as the Matformer design and Per Layer Embedding technology. These allow more efficient model execution on limited mobile memory and expand the context window from 12K to 32K, enhancing browsing, app launches, system rendering, and AI responsiveness. Thermal management has also been upgraded at both hardware and software levels, ensuring stable performance at higher clock speeds.

On-device AI features have been expanded to over 20 at launch, including Magic Cue, call transcription, a redesigned Journal app, scam detection, and smarter Gboard editing. Real-time translation now runs generative and traditional audio models in parallel for more natural results. A new "single-pass voice fidelity" function can recreate a speaker's voiceprint in seconds without storing or registering audio, preserving user privacy.

For imaging, the G5 integrates a custom ISP with better low-light capture, fine-grained scene segmentation, and object recognition. Pixel 10 supports 1080p and 4K30 10-bit video recording by default, alongside motion deblur and Real Tone optimizations. Advanced AI-driven camera features include "Add Me," "Auto Best Take," and up to 100x Pro Res Zoom. Google highlights this as the largest Pixel camera model ever, with nearly one billion parameters and in-app diffusion model execution powered by the G5 TPU. For comparison, the Pixel 8 Pro's G3 handled tens of thousands of parameters, while the Pixel 9 Pro's G4 worked in the millions.

The Tensor G5 also runs a multilingual real-time speech model with three billion parameters, demonstrating its expanded AI compute capability. As a result, the Pixel 10 lineup brings new camera features like "Camera Coach," 100x Pro Res Zoom at 24fps, and a range of AI-powered enhancements that push Google's smartphone performance and imaging capabilities to a new level.
