NVIDIA Slashes RTX 50 Series Prices in Europe

According to recent reports, NVIDIA has lowered the suggested retail prices (MSRP) of several RTX 50 Series Founders Edition graphics cards in Europe, with the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 seeing nearly 10% reductions. The move is largely driven by the weakening U.S. dollar, which has reduced import costs. When the RTX 50 Series was first introduced, the dollar-to-euro exchange rate was around 1.04, compared to the current 1.16, meaning the dollar has lost more than 10% of its value since January. This shift has given NVIDIA room to adjust prices in multiple European countries, including Germany, France, Belgium, and Spain.

The updated prices now stand at €2,099 for the RTX 5090 (down from €2,329), €1,059 for the RTX 5080 (down from €1,169), and €589 for the RTX 5070 (down from €649). The RTX 5050 also saw a price cut of about 6.7%, while models such as the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 5060 remain unchanged.

Industry analysts note that this is not a result of increased GPU supply but rather a reaction to broader economic conditions. New U.S. tariffs on global goods have added inflationary pressure and weakened the dollar's purchasing power, enabling NVIDIA to make pricing adjustments in Europe. Other board partners, however, have yet to follow suit.

Although GPU prices typically soften a few months after launch, factors such as rising TSMC foundry costs and recently imposed U.S. semiconductor tariffs have actually pushed overall GPU prices 10% to 15% higher. Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on semiconductor products and suggested that rates could climb as high as 300% following the Department of Commerce's Section 232 investigation.

Analysts believe NVIDIA could maintain price stability in Europe if it either manufactures GPUs outside the U.S. for the European market or completes full card assembly domestically to bypass import tariffs. The company is set to release its latest earnings report on August 27, with investors remaining cautious. NVIDIA shares (NASDAQ: NVDA) closed slightly lower on August 20 at $175.40, though they are still up 26.82% year-to-date.
