Arm to Adopt NVIDIA NVLink in AI Data Center Chips

According to reports, Arm is set to integrate NVIDIA's NVLink technology into its AI data center chip designs, further strengthening collaboration between the two semiconductor giants.

As the owner of the world's most widely used processor technology, Arm announced that it will add NVLink interfaces to its Neoverse platform. NVIDIA, a leader in AI infrastructure processors, has made NVLink a key tool for connecting multiple chips efficiently.

Under CEO Rene Haas, Arm has been offering more complete chip design solutions to its clients. This strategy aims to expand revenue opportunities beyond its traditional smartphone market stronghold into other high-growth sectors.

NVLink acts as a high-speed bridge between chips, primarily linking NVIDIA's AI accelerators—the processors that power AI software development and deployment. By enabling ultra-fast communication between chips, NVLink allows large computational tasks to be split and executed more efficiently.

Recently, NVIDIA released the Fusion NVLink version, making it available to other hardware manufacturers. This allows non-NVIDIA chips to connect seamlessly to AI computing infrastructures.

In September, NVIDIA also announced a partnership with long-time competitor Intel, enabling Intel to adopt NVLink in certain server products. Arm, meanwhile, has been making inroads in the data center market through clients such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft, gradually taking share from Intel, whose Xeon processors once dominated 99% of the market.

NVIDIA has already combined Arm technology with its processors and AI accelerators and even attempted to acquire Arm, though regulatory challenges prevented the deal. This closer collaboration is expected to further cement NVLink as an industry standard.

At the same time, Arm is promoting its Neoverse technology to hyperscale data center operators—the largest operators globally. The company projects its products could capture up to 50% of this market.

Investors will get an updated look at NVIDIA's growth trajectory on November 19, when the company releases its quarterly earnings, providing insights into the pace of large-scale AI computing deployments.
