As global cloud giants continue to scale up AI data center capacity, the surge in demand is no longer limited to AI accelerators and memory chips. Server CPUs are now firmly in the spotlight, with tightening supply and rising prices emerging across the market—particularly for products from Intel and AMD.
According to the latest research from market intelligence firm TrendForce, North American cloud service providers are accelerating investment in AI infrastructure. This spending wave is expected to drive global AI server shipments to grow by more than 28% year over year in 2026. Total global server shipments, including AI systems, are forecast to rise 12.8% in 2026, marking a faster growth pace than in 2025.
Industry sources indicate that aggressive purchasing by hyperscale cloud operators has pushed Intel's and AMD's server CPU capacity for 2026 close to full. To address the growing supply-demand imbalance and stabilize future availability, both companies are reportedly planning server CPU price increases in the range of 10% to 15%.
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh noted in a research report released late on January 20 that AMD's server CPU output for 2026 is nearly sold out. As hyperscalers lock in production capacity to secure supply, AMD is increasingly likely to raise average selling prices for its server CPUs by 10% to 15%.
Vinh also expects AMD's fourth-quarter earnings, scheduled for release in February, to exceed Wall Street expectations, with a potential upward revision to near-term guidance. This momentum is largely driven by robust server CPU demand, particularly for AMD's latest Turin data center processors.
Echoing this optimism, Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon published a report on January 21 raising his estimate for AMD's fourth-quarter revenue. His projections suggest that revenue from AMD's EPYC server CPU lineup—including fifth-generation Turin processors—could grow by as much as 30% in 2026.
Investor response was swift. During U.S. trading on January 21, Intel shares surged 11.72% to close at USD 54.25, marking their highest closing level since January 18, 2022. AMD shares rose 7.71% to USD 249.80, reaching their highest close since November 12, 2025.
