Samsung 2nm Yield Hits 50%, Orders Set to Soar 130%

According to Taiwanese media, Samsung Electronics has achieved a 50% mass production yield for its 2nm GAA process in the foundry division. South Korean analysts project that Samsung's 2nm order volume in 2026 will surge by 130% year-over-year.

Last year, Tesla signed a $16.5 billion wafer manufacturing agreement with Samsung, becoming a key customer for its 2nm process. Samsung's in-house Exynos 2600 processor, also produced on the 2nm node, has entered mass production, signaling improved yield and stability for the company's advanced process technology.

Reports from DigiTimes indicate that Samsung is actively seeking customers for its second-generation 2nm process. Analysts remain confident that the company will secure significantly higher orders this year.

Beyond improving 2nm yields in South Korea, Samsung is upgrading its U.S. Taylor fab—originally planned for 4nm production—to support 2nm. Equipment testing is set to begin in March, with mass production expected by year-end. Compared with TSMC's U.S. fabs, Samsung's Taylor plant could reach 2nm mass production faster, potentially strengthening its competitive position in the U.S. market.

However, leading smartphone chipmakers Apple and Qualcomm have yet to adopt Samsung's 2nm process, which is expected to remain exclusively produced by TSMC.
