Samsung Exynos Modem Powers Fibocom 5G Module Production

According to reports from South Korean media outlets inews24 and Green Economy News, citing industry sources, Samsung Electronics has begun supplying its in-house developed Exynos Modem to wireless communication module maker Fibocom. The Fx550 5G module powered by this modem has recently entered mass production for the global market.

The Exynos Modem is a cellular communication semiconductor, while the Fx550 is a fully integrated 5G module built on this chipset and designed for direct deployment in communication and IoT devices. Fibocom stated that it has established an exclusive partnership with Samsung, marking the first large-scale commercialization and market validation of the Exynos Modem in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector.

This development is particularly significant as it represents the first time Samsung has enabled mass production of its Exynos modem solution in a third-party commercial product. The move highlights Samsung’s strategic push to expand its external customer base. The company’s System LSI division aims to improve its product mix by increasing the share of high-value products and external clients, ultimately strengthening profitability and moving beyond its break-even point.

Beyond modems, Samsung is actively broadening its presence across multiple semiconductor segments. In August 2025, the company secured a design win for next-generation CMOS image sensors (CIS) for future iPhone models from Apple Inc.. In the automotive sector, its Exynos Auto processors have been adopted in vehicles such as the BMW iX3, further strengthening its track record in automotive electronics.

Industry analysts note that as Samsung continues to gain external orders across diversified product lines—including modems, CIS, and automotive SoCs—combined with improvements in its foundry process competitiveness, the System LSI division is well-positioned to achieve meaningful profitability gains in the coming years.
