According to Hsinchu Science Park Bureau, TSMC has made significant progress in advancing its 2nm process capacity at Fab 20, located in the Baoshan Phase II site of Hsinchu Science Park. Two facilities are already producing 2nm technology, while a third fab is currently undergoing cleanroom installation and is expected to begin volume production in the fourth quarter of this year.
Speaking at a press conference on April 29, Bureau Director-General Hu Shih-min confirmed that Fab 20 is planned as a four-fab complex, with construction progressing on schedule. The expansion reflects continued investment momentum in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and packaging technologies within the science park.
Hu noted that multiple companies are increasing investments in advanced packaging, which is expected to contribute to revenue growth in the second half of the year. Following discussions with IC design houses and semiconductor packaging and testing firms, industry conditions are projected to gradually strengthen, potentially reaching a cyclical peak later this year. Total revenue for Hsinchu Science Park is forecast to reach approximately NT$1.8 trillion in 2026, representing an estimated 5.8% increase.
Development of the park’s X Base Phase II and III facilities is also progressing as planned. Of the 51 units in Phase I, 45 have already been allocated, with continued interest from IC design firms and equipment manufacturers, including several international companies whose operational plans are currently under review.
In the biomedical sector, Hu highlighted the recent topping-out ceremony of a new research building by National Taiwan University, noting that its presence will enhance ecosystem integration within the biomedical park. Currently, three buildings are available in the Hsinchu Biomedical Park, with only five units remaining after recent allocations. Strong demand has prompted ongoing efforts to secure approval for a fourth biotechnology facility.
Regarding utilities, Hu stated that water supply conditions in the Hsinchu region have improved from a “yellow” alert to a “green” reminder level, supported by anticipated rainfall. The park will continue implementing a 5% voluntary water conservation target while coordinating with the Water Resources Agency for overall resource management.
Separately, green energy firm Hotai Energy reported steady expansion in EV charging infrastructure, including adoption by a major Japanese logistics provider, with annual revenue projected to approach NT$500 million. Meanwhile, Lirui Technology is focusing on the development of breast MRI systems and is currently pursuing regulatory approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a key operational milestone.
