
According to Samsung Electronics, the company announced on July 21 that it will establish a dedicated robotics division that will report directly to the CEO, aiming to accelerate robotics research, development, and commercialization while positioning robots as a new growth engine.
The newly established division, named RX (Robot eXperience), will oversee Samsung’s mid- and long-term robotics strategies, core technology development, and business execution. It will also expand the company’s robotics research capabilities both in South Korea and overseas.
Samsung Electronics stated that Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun will lead the company’s robotics strategy team. Lee previously led robotics strategy initiatives at Hyundai Motor Group, including strategic planning related to Boston Dynamics.
The company also plans to establish robotics research centers in regions with rapidly growing robotics ecosystems, including the United States, China, and Japan. Through collaboration with local research networks and technical expertise, Samsung aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the global robotics market.
During its earnings call in January, Samsung Electronics said it aims to achieve “meaningful” progress in the humanoid robotics sector this year. In April, the company revealed that it would consider investments and acquisitions when necessary to accelerate robotics technology development and commercialization, while also working with local partners on joint technology development.
Samsung noted that advancements in technologies such as physical AI are making robotics businesses increasingly viable. The company plans to develop humanoid robots designed to improve manufacturing efficiency and user experiences, with initial deployments expected in production facilities before expanding into consumer, home, and retail applications.
With the establishment of the RX division, Samsung Electronics is strengthening its focus on next-generation robotics technologies and exploring new opportunities in the rapidly evolving AI-driven robotics industry.
