According to reports, ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) has begun gradually putting into operation a 25,000-square-meter expansion area at its global headquarters in Oberkochen, Germany, as part of its long-term investment strategy to support the future growth of the semiconductor industry.
The expansion project was officially launched with a groundbreaking ceremony in May 2022. The new office building is scheduled to be fully opened this month, while additional facilities will be completed and brought online in phases.
ZEISS SMT said that the rapid development of artificial intelligence is accelerating demand for advanced process semiconductor chips. The expansion of the Oberkochen site is designed to strengthen the company’s ability to provide continuous support for global semiconductor technology development while improving its long-term capacity and innovation capabilities.
Frank Rohmund, President and CEO of ZEISS SMT, said: “By expanding our facilities in Oberkochen and our international locations, we are making forward-looking investments in the future of the semiconductor industry. As part of this highly complex and capital-intensive ecosystem, we are taking responsibility and creating the necessary foundations for innovation, reliability, scalability, and speed.”
In addition to the Oberkochen expansion, ZEISS SMT is also developing a new multifunctional facility in Wetzlar, Hesse, Germany. Meanwhile, construction progress continues at its high-tech site in Jena, Thuringia, further strengthening ZEISS’s global semiconductor technology footprint.
