Qualcomm Completes Acquisition of Modular

According to Qualcomm, the company has completed its acquisition of Modular Inc., a leading innovator in AI-native software infrastructure, on July 29. The acquisition is expected to strengthen Qualcomm Technologies’ ability to deliver comprehensive AI solutions by combining Modular’s advanced software platform with Qualcomm’s expertise in high-performance and power-efficient computing.

Modular’s software platform provides developers with a unified approach to optimizing and deploying generative AI and AI agent workloads across heterogeneous computing systems. By integrating Modular’s technologies, Qualcomm aims to accelerate the expansion of its AI platforms across devices, data centers, edge infrastructure, and both personal and industrial AI applications.

Following the acquisition, Modular will continue developing an open heterogeneous computing ecosystem while maintaining leadership in optimizing AI performance across CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, and custom silicon platforms. Its existing products and brands, including Mojo, MAX, and Modular Cloud, will continue operating with additional investment and support from Qualcomm Technologies.

As part of the acquisition, Modular co-founder and CEO Chris Lattner will join Qualcomm as Executive Vice President of Advanced AI Software and Platforms. Lattner is widely recognized for his contributions to software development technologies, including the creation of the LLVM compiler infrastructure and the Swift programming language.

The acquisition marks another strategic move by Qualcomm to expand its AI software ecosystem and strengthen its position in next-generation AI computing, spanning edge devices, cloud infrastructure, and advanced semiconductor platforms.
