According to people familiar with the matter, NVIDIA is in discussions to invest in artificial intelligence startup Perplexity as part of the company’s latest equity financing round, which is expected to push Perplexity’s valuation above $30 billion.
The potential funding round would represent a more than 50% increase in Perplexity’s valuation compared with its previous financing completed about a year ago.
Reports indicate that Perplexity’s annualized revenue has grown from less than $250 million at the beginning of this year to more than $750 million. A portion of this growth has been driven by Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent that enables professionals to automate computer-based tasks and improve workflow efficiency.
In September last year, Perplexity was valued at $20 billion. Earlier this year, the company signed a $750 million agreement with Microsoft to utilize its Azure cloud computing services.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said in June that the company plans to pursue an initial public offering in 2028, regardless of market reactions to potential IPOs from other leading AI companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
In addition to NVIDIA, Perplexity has attracted support from several high-profile investors, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Japan’s SoftBank Group. The potential investment from NVIDIA highlights growing industry interest in AI infrastructure, search technology, and next-generation AI agent platforms.
