
According to Apple, the company has introduced the new M6 processor for the latest Mac mini and the M5 Ultra processor for the updated Mac Studio, delivering significant improvements in computing performance and artificial intelligence capabilities.
The M6 marks Apple’s first advanced chip built on a 2nm process technology, bringing comprehensive performance enhancements across its computing architecture. The processor features a larger 12-core CPU complex with the world’s fastest CPU cores, a larger 12-core GPU equipped with neural accelerators, dual 16-core Neural Engines, and unified memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Compared with the M5, the M6 delivers up to 10% higher performance, while offering up to 2.5 times the performance of the M1.
Designed for professional workloads and AI-intensive applications, the M5 Ultra represents Apple’s most powerful desktop processor to date. It integrates the next-generation UltraFusion technology, introducing a four-chip architecture for the first time in Apple’s M-series system-on-chip (SoC) lineup. The processor features up to 36 CPU cores, up to 80 GPU cores, and unified memory bandwidth of up to 1.2TB/s, representing a 50% increase compared with the M3 Ultra.
With advanced semiconductor technologies and improved chip architectures, the new M6 and M5 Ultra SoCs deliver higher computing performance, enhanced AI processing capabilities, and industry-leading energy efficiency, enabling users to handle more demanding professional tasks on desktop systems.
