DIY Electric Screwdriver Core Components: Build Your Own

If you are interested in the key components for a DIY electric screwdriver, you may want to check out this article.

If you often need to remove and install screws and happen to have a few geared motors on hand, you can get creative and make your own electric screwdriver.

First, you need to make a fixture. If you happen to have a copper mounting rod with an internal M3 thread, and the motor shaft is exactly 3 mm in diameter, you can simply grind it slightly to make it fit.

You can secure the shaft by adding a set screw to the rod. First, drill a hole, then solder a short threaded rod onto it using a heating plate. During soldering, place a piece of paper inside the hole to prevent solder from blocking it. Finally, clean the hole with a tap.

For the bit, you can use an M3 stainless steel screw and machine it into a screwdriver bit. This helps ensure good concentricity and makes it easy to secure.
