NVIDIA Considers Acquiring Reflection AI

According to people familiar with the matter, NVIDIA is in talks to deepen its investment in open-source AI startup Reflection AI or potentially acquire the company. The discussions remain at an early stage, and several deal structures are being considered, including an acqui-hire arrangement in which NVIDIA would recruit Reflection AI’s employees and license its technology rather than pursue a full acquisition. Such a structure could potentially avoid lengthy regulatory reviews. An agreement could be reached within the next few weeks, although the negotiations could still fall through.

NVIDIA is already a major financial backer and strategic investor in Reflection AI, having invested $800 million in the startup. Founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection AI focuses on developing autonomous software development tools, an increasingly important application area in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence market.

In April, Reflection AI CEO Misha Laskin said the NVIDIA-backed startup was raising a new funding round at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion.

The company recently released its first open-source model, Beam, which aims to compete with lower-cost Chinese AI models, including DeepSeek and Kimi, in coding and AI agent tasks. The potential deal would further highlight NVIDIA’s interest in the development of AI software and autonomous coding technologies, as competition intensifies in the open-source AI model market.
