NVIDIA Denies RTX 5090 Discontinuation Rumors

According to TechPowerUp, NVIDIA has denied rumors that its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card is being discontinued. Jeff Fisher, NVIDIA’s senior vice president of its PC business, addressed the speculation at the RTX Spark event in Taipei on October 18, stating that the claims were false and confirming that the RTX 5090 remains a key product with continued supply planned.

Fisher also emphasized the importance of GeForce to NVIDIA’s development, noting that its gaming business helped lay the foundation for CUDA and the company’s subsequent growth in artificial intelligence (AI) computing. However, he acknowledged that supply chain capacity remains constrained across the industry, with NVIDIA working to deliver more products to the market.

The discontinuation rumors emerged in mid-October after reports claimed that NVIDIA had stopped supplying its GB202 graphics processing chips to board partners. Speculation suggested that the RTX 5090 and the China-specific RTX 5090 D v2 could be affected, with production capacity potentially shifting toward professional graphics and AI products. Reports of limited retail availability and sharply rising prices further fueled concerns.

The RTX 5090, launched in January 2025 with a starting price of $1,999, features 21,760 CUDA cores, 32GB of GDDR7 memory, and a 575W power rating. Rising memory costs and strong AI demand have added pressure to the graphics card supply chain.

Although NVIDIA’s statement rejects claims of an official discontinuation, supply constraints and increasing component costs remain key factors to watch. Actual availability and pricing will depend on how NVIDIA manages production capacity and demand across its gaming and professional product lines.
