According to industry sources, LG Display plans to invest an additional RMB 1 billion (approximately US$140 million) with a Chinese state-owned enterprise to expand large-size organic light-emitting diode (OLED) module production capacity at its Guangzhou facility.
On October 28, industry insiders revealed that LG Display and Guangzhou Development District Holding Group will jointly inject RMB 1 billion in additional equity into their OLED manufacturing joint venture in Guangzhou. Under the existing 70:30 ownership structure, LG Display will contribute RMB 700 million, while its Chinese partner will invest RMB 300 million.
The investment will fund upgrades to existing factory facilities and the establishment of new production lines for 77-inch, 83-inch, 97-inch, and 111-inch OLED modules. The Guangzhou facility currently manufactures 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch OLED products. Notably, the dedicated production line for 111-inch OLED modules will be the first of its kind worldwide.
During its third-quarter earnings conference call on October 22, LG Display projected that its large-size OLED panel shipments would increase approximately 20% year over year in 2026, reaching the upper end of its target range of 7 million units. This forecast includes panels used in televisions and monitors. Monitor panels are expected to account for approximately 20% of total large-size OLED shipments in 2026, up from an estimated 10% to 15% in 2025.
OLED monitor panels are becoming an increasingly important growth driver for LG Display's large-size display business. While the global television market remains relatively stagnant, gaming monitors are accelerating their transition from liquid crystal display (LCD) technology to OLED. With advantages such as faster response times, higher contrast ratios, and superior image quality, OLED technology is particularly well suited to premium gaming monitors that require high refresh rates and enhanced visual performance.
