According to media reports, in addition to being one of the mobile phone manufacturers, Samsung is also one of the world's largest manufacturers of telecommunications equipment. Today, Samsung announced that it will start producing 4G and 5G telecom network equipment in India.
It is reported that Samsung plans to invest 4 billion Indian rupees (about 354 million yuan) to produce 4G and 5G telecom infrastructure at its manufacturing plant in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. This is also the first time that Samsung has invested in manufacturing network equipment in India, after Ericsson and Nokia have started local telecom infrastructure construction in India.
With the investment, Samsung can apply for India's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which will provide eligible businesses with an incentive of 4% to 7% to encourage local electronics manufacturing.
It is understood that Samsung has been approved by the Indian government to become a reliable telecom equipment supplier and has received orders from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, the two largest telecom operators in India.
