Intel faced an issue with its fourth-generation Xeon Scalable processors, known as Sapphire Rapids, during the first quarter of 2023. As a result, Intel has temporarily halted the supply of the affected models and is currently conducting inspections on those products. The specific model with problems is the Sapphire Rapids MCC 32-core processor, while other variants with 20/24 cores, 36 cores, and higher are unaffected.
Experts have stated that the impact of this situation is limited. Since the enterprise market has extended the lifespan of older platforms, the demand for Intel's fourth-generation Xeon Sapphire Rapids processors has significantly slowed down in 2023. In terms of scale, the proportion of Intel CPUs affected by this issue represents less than 1% of the total Intel DP server CPUs. Therefore, the impact on Intel's server CPU shipments is minimal.
The adoption of DDR5 memory in the server market is expected to be relatively slow, with a penetration rate of only 13.4% in 2023. It is anticipated that DDR5 usage will surpass DDR4 in the server market by the third quarter of 2024.
