DIY Air Compressor: Suspended Pumps & Extinguisher Can

In the realm of DIY ingenuity, the fusion of suspended air pumps and dormant fire extinguisher cans gives birth to an innovative venture – crafting a self-made air compressor. The realm of possibilities unfolds as we explore various modification avenues, from the choice between a refrigerator compressor and an air pump to the intricacies of MOSFET control versus relay configurations. Here, we delve into the art of repurposing, assembling, and refining, all while keeping safety and efficiency at the forefront.

Air Suspended Air Pump and Idle Fire Extinguisher Can DIY Air Compressor

Generally, there are several modification options to choose from:

Using a refrigerator compressor or an air pump? Since a refrigerator compressor tends to spray freezing oil and has lower airflow, an air pump is more suitable.

MOSFET control or relay? Using MOSFETs would be more appropriate.

Should an air tank be included? Definitely yes.

Gas tank/industrial tank/refrigerant tank/fire extinguisher? Gas tanks are riskier, industrial tanks are expensive, refrigerant pipes are difficult to find adapters for. If you have many expired fire extinguishers, you can choose a fire extinguisher.

Having rust on the base might have a slight impact.

If you initially choose a relay, you might encounter the following situation: the relay might face difficulties in starting due to overcurrent protection.

Upon opening the relay, you might observe that the contact points have sparked and turned black.

Solving the issue of high current startup in brushed motors is difficult, and high-power NTCs are expensive. Therefore, switching to the MOSFET solution would be more appropriate. The SMC pressure gauge is ISE30A-01-N-M with NPN output, which needs to be converted to PNP. On the right side of the circuit board is the conversion circuit, the middle part houses the boost circuit, and the left side is the MOS totem pole driver circuit. If you're not familiar with circuits, you can refer to online diagrams of car emergency start power supplies.

With a power source, it's relatively simple to complete. In comparison to the finished product, the main focus of the air compressor is on being quiet and portable. The costs of manual painting and welding can vary from person to person.

End.
