Texas Instruments: 40+ Year Lifespan in High-Voltage Isolation

On September 20, 2023, Texas Instruments (TI) unveiled a groundbreaking series of optocoupler simulators, harnessing the power of signal isolation semiconductor technology. These simulators have been meticulously designed to bolster signal integrity, curtail power consumption, and substantially extend the operational life of applications in the high-voltage industrial and automotive sectors. This launch signifies Texas Instruments' pioneering venture into the realm of optocoupler simulation, offering seamless compatibility with established industry optocoupler pins, all the while capitalizing on the unique attributes of silicon dioxide (SiO2) isolation technology.

Tsedeniya Abraham, the General Manager of Interface Products at Texas Instruments, articulated, "As the electrification drive gathers momentum and high-voltage power systems grow increasingly intricate, engineers find themselves navigating the dual challenge of maintaining robust isolation levels while enhancing product performance and durability. Our avant-garde optocoupler simulator series not only addresses the escalating demand for high-reliability, cost-effective isolation technology but also underscores our unwavering commitment to advancing high-voltage technology."

For years, optocouplers, leveraging an embedded LED for signal isolation, have been the preferred choice for engineers. However, they necessitate overdesigning to offset the inescapable aging effects of the integrated LED. In contrast, Texas Instruments' optocoupler simulators harness SiO2 isolation gates, eliminating the requirement for overdesigning and eradicating the aging effects of the LED entirely. Boasting a remarkable dielectric strength of 500VRMS/μm, Texas Instruments' SiO2 isolation gates empower the new device series to offer enduring protection to end products, extending over 40 years. Moreover, these optocoupler simulators deliver isolation protection of up to 3,750VRMS while concurrently slashing power consumption by up to 80%.

In addition, this product series exhibits remarkable resilience, accommodating an expansive operating temperature range spanning from -55°C to 125°C. It also proffers superior common-mode transient immunity, surpassing traditional optocouplers by up to tenfold.
