NVIDIA has announced plans to launch a new AI chip, the B20, tailored specifically for the Chinese market next year. This innovative chip will be introduced alongside the GB20 server, designed to optimize the chip's performance. While NVIDIA has previously released chips for the Chinese market, this is the first time a new server is being launched in conjunction with these chips.
The B20 chip and GB20 server are part of NVIDIA's latest AI chip series, Blackwell, which debuted in March. According to sources involved in server development, the B20 may not be NVIDIA's highest-performing chip, but its integration with the GB20 server addresses any performance gaps. "The B20 chip processes AI computations slightly slower than the Blackwell chips, but when multiple B20 chips are installed in the GB20 server, this impact is significantly reduced," one source commented.
The GB20 server will feature NVIDIA's NVLink technology and advanced cooling solutions, enhancing the B20's performance and the efficiency of the GB20 cluster in AI applications.
NVIDIA and the U.S. Department of Commerce have declined to comment on this announcement. However, Jefferies analysts recently noted that the U.S. Commerce Department will review semiconductor export restrictions in October, which may impact the sale of NVIDIA's previously released H20 chip in China.
