Apple has just released the AirTag 2, hinting at a lineup of exciting innovations coming later this year. While the M5 Pro and M5 Max are expected in the first half of 2026, a recent report reveals early details about the M6 chip, suggesting it could debut sooner than anticipated. The same report notes that Apple released the M3 and M4 chips just five months apart, with M5 arriving in October 2025.
Redesigned MacBook Pro models are not expected until the end of 2026, but the M6 chip is likely to be integrated into a wider range of Apple products. Tech analyst Mark Gurman shared these insights in his latest "Power On" newsletter, confirming that the M6 will be Apple's first chip built on a 2nm process.
Gurman adds, "It's worth noting that the M6 could arrive earlier than many expect. While it may not appear in the upcoming MacBook models immediately, some configurations should feature it in the near future. Apple released three M5-powered devices in October 2025. Even though the M6 seems fast-tracked, the M3 and M4 were also only five months apart."
Interestingly, Apple last launched two entirely new MacBook Pro lines within a single year three years ago, in October 2023, when M2 Pro and M2 Max were replaced by the M3 series. Although the M6-powered MacBook Pro is projected for late 2026, this next-gen chip could also power future Mac mini and iPad Pro models.
Notably, the M4 originally debuted in Apple's flagship tablets before expanding to Mac devices, suggesting Cupertino may follow a similar strategy with M6 in 2026.
