According to South Korean media reports, Samsung Electronics stopped large-scale mergers and acquisitions after acquiring Harman in 2017 without a final decision maker. On August 15, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong will be reinstated by amnesty, possibly preparing for large-scale semiconductor mergers and acquisitions.
Lee Jae-yong said: "In the future, I will work harder to fulfill my responsibilities and obligations as a businessman."
Samsung Electronics has announced an investment plan of 450 trillion won over five years, and Samsung Electronics is expected to actively use the investment to initiate mergers and acquisitions.
In April, Samsung Electronics hired Bank of America semiconductor M&A specialist Marco Chisari. Since 2018, Marco Chisari has served as Managing Director and Head of Global Semiconductor Investments at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, leading various mergers and acquisitions. For example, Infineon acquired Cypress, AMS acquired Osram, and Marvell acquired Aquantia and Avera.
Industry insiders believe that after Lee Jae-yong's reinstatement, he will speed up the decision-making efficiency of Samsung Electronics' investment and mergers and acquisitions, and seize market opportunities such as automotive semiconductors.
